Painter Chris Mars talks about his book Tolerance.

Readersvoice.com aims to pick up a few interesting reading tips.
For this issue I interviewed comics artist Jeffrey Brown, author of Funny Misshapen Body: A Memoir (Simon and Schuster). Jeff Brown was also featured in Best American Comics 2007, edited by Chris Ware. His comics are like a diary packed with visual detail, well drawn.
Also I interviewed Chris Mars. His book Tolerance (published by Last Gasp/ La Luz de Jesus) features 159 of his paintings plus his essays about them. The paintings are populated by seemingly monstrous people. But on closer inspection, these outsiders evoke empathy. First up, Chris Mars.

Comics artist Jeffrey Brown talks about Funny Misshapen Body.

Jeffrey Brown’s latest book, Funny Misshapen Body (Simon and Schuster) is a comic based on his art college years. His comics include Clumsy (2002), the story of a year-long long distance relationship, and Unlikely (or how I lost my virginity), (2003), about Jeff Brown’s first sexual relationship. A sample from Little Things: A Memoir in Slices, called These Things, These Things, was included in the anthology Best American Comics 2007, edited by Chris Ware. He said Jeff Brown worked in an unaffected, diary-like style. Jeff Brown’s work is largely autobiographical, and is packed with visual detail.

Fantasy author Sabrina deSouza on The Catarbie Conspiracy

Readersvoice.com aims to pick up a few good reading tips. For this issue I interviewed Sabrina deSouza, author of The Catarbie Conspiracy.
The fantasy novel tells the story of how three people are inside an abandoned mansion, Marjory House, in Dartona, a fictional town in Australia, when they are thrown into another world: Houkura.
One of the first things they see is a giant squid-like creature on the shore. The creatures get stranger, though. There are Chicroms (blood-sucking vines), and the Karach (a tree that mimics in order to lure its prey). There is also a tree inn, as well as mountain dwellers, a dark magi, and Catarbie: a mysterious disease. In this interview Sabrina deSouza describes some of her writing methods, gives some good fantasy book recommendations, and talks about the steps she took in self-publishing the novel.
