Interview

P. Saravanaraja p3

Mr P. Saravanaraja talks about his daily routine with Nila Comics and his other businesses in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Chennai is usually known for its movie industry: some call it Kollywood, as the industry is based in Kodambakkam, in Chennai. Mr Saravanaraja also mentions some favorite Tamil language authors. Some of their works have been translated into English.

READERSVOICE.COM: Where did you find the writers to break down the 2400 page novel into comics?

P. SARAVANARAJA: The story adaptation is done by Mr.M.Karthikeyan himself. Since I am proficient in Tamil, I just took care of the language and suitability of the same for the targeted age group.

RV: About how much of the five volumes of the novel have your writers scripted and your artists illustrated so far?

P.S: It’s fully done. The English translation was done by Ms. Nila who is just 17 years old. [Nila had also read Kalki’s other famous novels Sivagamiyin Sabatham and Parthiban Kanavu.]

RV: What are some of your other favorite books, whether fiction or non-fiction?

P.S: The writers “Sujatha” [S. Rangarajan, a prolific author of more than 100 novels, as well as plays and short stories]; Janaki Raman; and Tamilvanan are my favorites. I would have read every book written by them.

RV: What is your daily routine in Chennai?

P.S: I have three businesses; so managing them consumes maximum time. I am a workaholic. Take a break –post lunch and once again resume work till 8pm.

RV: What are some of your plans for Nila comics and the web series of Ponniyin Selvan?

P.S: We have plans to bring out more such content for the kids, but the size of the book may be lesser in terms of pages. We are looking for a global distributor for the same

The web series will be completed in nine months from now as “motion comics”. We are looking for a suitable platform to launch it.
