Opshops might not even have a lot of these older books, but these charity stores are good for finding cheap, interesting reads. And often the quality is better than more recent publications.
In Highways to happiness by C.L. Paddock, Signs Publishing Company, 1950, the following story is related about Henry Ford. The story comes from the autobiography Men and Rubber by Harvey S. Firestone.
C.L. Paddock tells the story: Thomas Edison, John Burroughs, Mr Ford and Mr Firestone were on one of their summer camping trips, and were travelling by motor-car. While camped one evening near the road, they saw a man walking briskly down the highway toward them. On approaching the group he said, “Gentlemen, I’ve had trouble up the road about a mile. I am on my way to an important engagement, and my car has stalled. It absolutely refuses to go. Do any of you men know anything about motor-cars?” Mr Firestone answered his query. Pointing to Mr Ford, he said, “That old fellow over there knows quite a bit about a car.”
